A view at TheCorner.com by Yoox

Publication Date: 23 May, 2008 | Category: Shopping

When Yoox announced that it would test the waters of offering the latest in designers (in contrast with their popular modus operandi of selling past season items at bargain prices), we were eager to see what they would come up with.

thecorner.com has a different visual approach (as expected) than Yoox and there is heavier use of Flash, which is not always very good.

The selection of brands to be found is actually very nice: Etro, Costume National Active, Joseph, Marc Jacobs, Les Hommes, Veronique Branquinho, Givenchy, Sonia Rykiel, Premiata are some of the biggest designer labels on the site.

So, what do we think of thecorner.com? Here is the list of the good and the bad...

We like:

  • - The selection of designer names. Some established, some fresh, most of them interesting for the avid shopper.
  • - Nice mix & match of aesthetics.
  • - The guarantee of Yoox in terms of shipping costs (low) and the free returns.
  • - The whole concept of introducing "limited" editions of clothing.

What we don't like:

  • - The heavy use of Flash makes the site a bit slow and tiring to navigate.
  • - The limited selection of items being sold.
  • - No clothing for women. Not yet, at least.
  • - The inability to see all items from one designer at once. You are only able to browse through each designer's category (i.e. Givenchy topwear, etc).
